Stanwick Lakes

Stanwick Lakes Trip

The Year 3 children stepped 4,000 years back in time on their trip to Stanwick Lakes, Northampton, back to the Bronze Age.
To support their understanding of the Bronze Age in history, the children had the opportunity to practise some Bronze Age activities and learn about how these helped the people in that era. They weaved willow strands to make a boat panel, they created and decorated some beaker pots, they spun wool into thread using traditional spinning tools, and they traded precious metals (copper, tin etc) and beads for a piece of amber. They used the amber to make a bracelet to show they belonged to a tribe.

The children learnt a lot and were able to apply their classroom learning to the trip too. In the afternoon, the children also got to meet some people who used spinning wheels to spin wool into thread and they got a chance to work a loom to make the thread into garments.
The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit.
