Uplands celebrates its Science Week

This week we have celebrated all things science with lots of fascinating and engaging activities.
On Monday, Uplands was visited by Mr Nitrate who conducted some exciting, and sometimes quite silly, demonstrations of scientific reactions and phenomena.
Later in the week, we were visited by Ady and his Science Dome. Years 3 and 4 were first to step into the Dome, deepening their understanding of science units that they have studied: rocks, and light and sound.
There have also been opportunities this week for children to use virtual reality in their learning. For example, Year 5 children used the headsets to put themselves onto the Moon and out into space.
Lots of other practical science lessons have taken place in class and cross curricular links were made in areas such as art.
Finally, a difficult decision was made in judging the wind turbine competition. Entries were put forward by Dinjal and Jai in Year 5, and Maryam in Year 3 but the winner of the main prize (a chemistry set) was Abdulwahab from Year 6 who used his knowledge of electrical circuits to add a motor to his model.
