This week, we welcomed the amazing Shareefa Energy to our school. She gave an inspiring presentation about her international poetry work and explained why she chose to follow the career she has. She spoke all about written poetry and spoken poetry, and that things like rap are still poetry but with a rhythm. Shareefa has written some well-known poetry on topics such as the Grenfell Tower and for the BBC. She then spent some time in each of the Year 6 classrooms and worked with the children to create their poem with some inspiration from the late Benjamin Zephaniah. The children really enjoyed the day and took a lot of ideas away with them. What makes it even more special for our children is that Shareefa was a student at our school, and so they can see that anything is possible if they put their mind to it.
We look forward to working with Shareefa in the future.
