Primary Schools Showcase Event at Leicester University

On Monday 23rd June, a few Y6 children who took part in the Mock Trial in March attended the Primary Schools Showcase Event at Leicester University, which focused on the theme of safety and awareness. The day began with a presentation from Warning Zone, who shared their Safety Toolkit and offered practical advice on how to stay safe in public and online. Through real-life scenarios, children learned how to make safe decisions in different environments.
Representatives from the NSPCC also spoke to the children, emphasising the importance of staying safe and speaking up if they ever feel uncomfortable or threatened.
Later in the morning, Cheryl Armatrading from the Antoin Akpom Achievements Foundation delivered a powerful lecture. She shared her personal experience with knife crime, speaking about the deep impact it had on her, her family and the wider community.
In the afternoon, finalists took part in a mock trial focused on a knife crime case. The event ended with the Mayor of Rutland presenting awards to the winning teams. Students also had the chance to view work created by other schools linked to the mock trial held in March, showcasing their learning and reflections around the issue of knife crime.
The event was both educational and inspiring, encouraging children to think critically about safety and the impact of their choices.
