Our children were treated to an unforgettable storytelling experience during our special visit from Nick, an author, adventurer, and allâround entertainer!
đ Stories Brought to Life
The session began with Nick reading aloud from his own books, captivating the children with his lively storytelling and expressive voices. His tales were filled with excitement, humour, and largerâthanâlife characters that had everyone hooked from the very first page.
đŤ The Hilarious Camel Puppet
A highlight of the morning was the appearance of Nickâs mischievous camel puppet. Its gross but hysterical boogieâfilled behaviour had the children roaring with laughter! Through puppetry, Nick brought his characters to life in a way that felt magical, silly, and wonderfully memorable.
âď¸ Adventures That Inspire
Nick also shared real stories from his own adventuresâjourneys and moments that have shaped the ideas behind his books. The children loved hearing how everyday encounters and unusual experiences can spark creativity and lead to exciting new stories.
Year 3 – The children were working on sentences where the 1st sentence ended in HOORAY and the 2nd sentence ended in BOO! E.g.: We had non-uniform day at school today…HOORAY! But we had a Maths test to do …BOO!
Another poem was where the letters of the alphabet were written down the side and 1 word was written against 1 of the letters.
The rest of the letters had to have words that rhymed with the 1st word.
Year 4 – Write some stories about things you can remember. Include lots of descriptions. For example, what, who, where, when, why, what was said, etc. Lots of examples were given as think points e.g. when you told a lie, saw something amazing when you were younger and your first day at school.
- Six-Word Story Challenge – In a fun literacy twist, the children learned all about sixâword stories and how just a handful of words can create powerful emotions or vivid imagery. They were amazed at how such tiny stories could be so impactful!
- Poems, Raps & Wordplay – Nick encouraged the children to list words and experiment with rhythm to create poems, raps, and short lyrical pieces. The challengeâ can you name at least 1 word for every letter of the alphabetic which rhymes and links to a vampire
Year 6 – created a poem based on a poem Nick had already written. He talked about the structure of the poem and how they can use their imagination to finish the line off.
To top it all off, Nick dazzled the children with a series of magic tricks. Gasps, giggles, and wideâeyed wonder filled the room as he blended storytelling, humour, and illusion into a truly enchanting finale.
