Year 3 are currently reading ‘The Boy Who Grew Dragons’ and the author of the book did a live online talk. The children were very excited to meet her, as they are really enjoying the adventure of Tomas and his dragon Flicker. She explained how the writing process works, how she uses the phrase ‘What if…?’ to explore how everyday objects can come to life. The children had some great ideas for this too, one example being: What if I opened a book and the main character came out? The children discussed several animals with special abilities and Andy explained how these can be used to bring animals in books to life too. The year 3 children are at the start of this great adventure series, so there are plenty of books still to read. It was great seeing Andy interact with the children. There were some very good questions being asked, and insights into the book too from the children’s perspective.
